Aftercare for Microneedling

First 24–48 hours

  • Keep skincare minimal: gentle cleanse, moisturiser, and SPF (from day 1 if you’re going outside).

  • Avoid active ingredients (retinol/retinoids, acids, exfoliating toners, vitamin C “treatment” serums, scrubs, peels).

  • No heat or heavy sweating: avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, and intense exercise.

  • No makeup if possible for the first 24 hours (and avoid heavy base for 48 hours if your skin feels sensitised).

  • Hands off: don’t touch, rub, or pick the skin.

  • Avoid swimming (chlorine/salt water) and very hot showers.

Days 3–7

  • Continue gentle skincare and prioritise hydration and barrier support.

  • SPF every day and avoid direct sun exposure.

  • No exfoliation and no “at-home treatments” (devices, masks with acids, strong actives).

  • Avoid hair removal in the treated area (waxing, threading, depilatory creams, dermaplaning).

When to restart active skincare

  • If your skin feels calm and settled, you can usually reintroduce actives after 5–7 days, one at a time.

  • If you’re on prescription skincare, follow your prescriber’s advice.

Injectables & other treatments

  • Avoid injectable treatments (anti-wrinkle and filler) for 7 days after microneedling, unless your practitioner has advised otherwise.

  • Avoid chemical peels, laser/IPL, and other intensive procedures until we confirm it’s safe to do so.

What’s normal

For the first couple of days, you may notice:

  • redness, warmth, or mild swelling

  • tightness/dryness

  • light flaking as the skin renews
This is expected and typically settles quickly.

When to contact us
